What is Sewage Pump?
A sewage pump is used to transfer sewage liquids and solids from one place to another. Sewage that contains soft sediments up to 2 inches in diameter is often transferred from a sewage basin to a sewer system or a septic tank in residential applications. The sewage basin’s lowest point has a sewage pump installed.
Centrifugal sewage pumps have a particular design that allows sediments to move through without clogging the pump. The pressure that forces water into the impeller and into the discharge pipe is created when the pump is turned on because the motor begins to rotate the impeller.
What are the Types of Sewage Pumps?
There are 3 types of Sewage Pumps. They are
- Effluent Pumps
- Solid Handling Pumps
- Grinder Pumps
Effluent Pumps
Effluent pumps are the pumps most frequently uses in small on-site systems. They are designed to pump effluent, the effluent flowing out of a septic tank. The fact that the particulates in the wastewater have separated in the septic tank has made the liquid comparatively clear. Because they don’t have to deal with sewage solids, effluent pumps are able to pump at higher volumes and with greater efficiency than other sewage pumps.
Solid Handling Pumps
These pumps, which are used to pump raw sewage, are also known as sewage ejector pumps. Only solids-handling pumps should be used to pump raw sewage since it includes too many solids for conventional pumps.
Grinder Pumps
Similar to a solid-handling pump is a grinder pump. Raw sewage can be pumped by it. The grinder pump, which cuts and grinds the solids into small pieces before the sewage is pumped, differs in that it includes revolving blades similar to waste grinders.
Benefits of Sewage Pumps
Sewage pumps are made to safely drain water that has accumulated in crawlspaces and basements and deposit it in a house’s wastewater system. Sump pumps are reasonably easy to use, but their installation is more challenging.
Here are the major benefits of having a sewage pump:
- Prevent flooding damage – When heavy rains trigger a flood of water into your basement, if you keep valuables in the basement, it can be very disastrous since 15 inches of flood water can swiftly cover the floor and ruin practically everything there. With a working sump pump, this disaster can be averted easily.
- Reduce the threat of mold and mildew – Continual dampness inside a basement from water in stagnant pools will contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. Not only are these both damaging to building materials, but they are health problems as well.
- Reduce the risk of fire – The basement’s heating, water heaters, and laundry appliances will all experience short circuits as a result of the water. Water can thus cause a fire risk in addition to destroying these expensive appliances. A sump pump will keep the water from threatening equipment that could trigger household fires
